The Show:
May 6th, 2010 by BenIf you haven’t noticed, Tech-Know Geeks has been some what lacking. We have cut back on Facebook (Last post was September 7, 2009 at 4:15pm), Twitter (last tweet was Dec 15th, 2009), and the webshow (last show was September 7th, 2009). We need to get back into doing the show. I personally feel that if we promote this site, and services, this could be of great service to people, and could be self fulfilling, by having topic ideas fed to us from the viewers. The only problem is that we currently do not have a large audience base. 39 people follow us on Twitter (I wonder how many are just bots?), 69 “Likes” on Facebook (how many actually know what we are?). We need to find a new base for the show to hold onto, a new audience to tap into and be promoted in.
The idea behind the show was to make short 5 to 10 minute shows that would outline a certain topic, to help the not so great technology user be able to learn how to make technology work for them, as well as let the technology enthusiast have a way to further their knowledge, and give back to the technology community by helping others with their technology issues. We have failed so fair with this. We have not done enough shows to make a difference, and we have not been able to promote other users to expand their knowledge. While this is a absolute failure, we are not going to give up
This show needs to be revitalized, and re publicized. While there is no set plan to do this, here is some thinking on this prosess:
Revitalize the show:
- Replace myself as a show anchor. If I can focus on the production side of the show, we can make the show look cleaner.
- Work on the scripting for the show. It is too loosey goosey, and does not flow well. Show lacks the structure.
- Develop a delivery system. Figure out Blip.tv (or youtube?) so that we can cleanly deliver our show to the audience
- Make the podcasting ability cleaner. I think it worked once, but NOBODY downloaded it.
- Make a cleaner graphic set, with lower thirds, motion transitions, and full screen graphics.
- Find a better set: my basement sucks.
Re-publicize:
- We need to promote ourselves on other technology shows, like Tekzilla, and Film-Riot (Revision 3)
- Become more organized with Twitter. Try to post bi-daily to keep followers interested
- Make the Facebook page a resources
- Find a sister site, a site that we can trade traffic with.
As I may have made clear in the article, we need more people. We need people to anchor the show, we need people to provide topics (post any ideas to the forum), we need people to read our articles, and we need people to give us feedback. Please get involved.
